This is my 14th year of teaching the Instructional Skills Class here at Del Valle High School. I received my B.S. degree in Political Science from the University of Idaho at Moscow, Idaho. Yes there are two Moscows. I spent the next 20 years drilling holes in the sky as an Army helicopter pilot. While stationed in South Korea I earned an M.S. degree in Education from Troy State University. Upon completion of my military service I enrolled in Region 19's alternative certification program and earned my teaching certificate. For the last four years we've had a job training program in our unit selling cup of noodles at lunch time. It's a great opportunity for students to learn job skills, social skills, and money skills. All time at the noodle stand also counts as community service hours worked because the work is done during lunch period. Because a class is not allowed to make money we operate under as a club, the 3-C's Club. The three C's are, Community, Concessions, and Crafts. In the last three years the club has donated over $3,000 to worthy causes such as Special Olympics, Field of Dreams, Teddy Bears from the Heart and most recently to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. It's and great opportunity for the students to learn about work, community and to have some fun.
