The Big6™ Skills
The Big6 is a process model of how people of all ages solve an
information problem. From practice and study, we found that successful
information problem-solving encompasses six stages with two sub-stages
under each:
1. Task Definition

Define the information problem

2. Information Seeking Strategies

Determine all possible sources

Select the best sources
3. Location and Access

Locate sources (intellectually and physically)

Using Big6
- Go to http://www.big6.com/kids.
- Select a topic. Make sure it is narrow in scope.
- Compose 3 questions. Fill in 3 keywords for each question.
- Discuss Boolen Searches. Conduct a search.
- Find a source. Copy the URL.
- Open a new window. Go to Citation Machine. Create a citation.
- Copy and paste citation onto the Big6 Research Form.
- Take several note. (No complete sentences.)
- Demonstrate how you cut the form apart to organize a research paper.
- Go to the Creative Publishing web site for final products.
