21st Century Technology Equipment Standards

The YISD 21st Century Technology Equipment Standards are guidelines/standards for both new construction and renovation/remodeling projects. The expectation is to attain these minimum standards at all YISD campuses and facilities. Attaining these standards is contingent on funding.

Infrastructure Standards

Classroom and Meeting Room

  • Dual electrical wall outlets will be located ten feet on center around the entire room.
  • EX: A 20'X 30' room will have two outlets on the thirty-foot wall and one on the twenty-foot wall (total of six outlets).
  • Dual electrical floor outlets will be located no further than ten square feet apart. EX: A 20'X 30' library would have a total of six floor outlets.
  • A wall power switch will be in place to control power to the floor outlets.
  • Mounting Hardware and projector will be installed on the ceiling no further than ten feet and no less than 7 feet from the mounted Interactive White Board. Necessary VGA cable, conduit for projector to wall and electrical ceiling outlet must be in place.
  • LCD Projector video plate will be located four feet from the interactive white board on the same wall and two feet above the floor to accommodate wall space.
  • Multiple light switches in order to control lighting in front of the projector and other switches will control additional lighting as needed.
  • Network drops will be strategically placed depending on architecture and layout.
  • Wireless connectivity.

Obsolescence Standards

In order to provide current technology equipment, the district recommends a four year obsolescence cycle. Under this plan, a computer that has been in use for a period of at least four years may be replaced with new or newer technology. To fulfill this plan, it is recommended that each site replace twenty percent of its oldest computers each year**. For purposes of network management and inventory control, a computer that reaches the four-year milestone may be considered obsolete. Such equipment may no longer be considered a supported network device, and repairs may be considered economically unfeasible. Ysleta District Technology Information Services Department recognizes that, though a product may be considered obsolete; there are situations or circumstances where it can continue to be a viable instructional solution.
