TECHNOLOGY CREDITS

Intro to Media Tech (V322) - Tech Credit

Intro to Media Tech - This course is designed to provide an understanding of careers in media technology fields. Students are introduced to the operation of different types of cameras, audio techniques, non-linear editing, creating media graphics, lighting, scriptwriting, direction, production, special effects and set design. Tech Credit


Computer Multimedia & Animation Technology (V367) - Tech Credit

Computer Multimedia & Animation Technology - A technical course, which develops, advanced knowledge and skills in the use of computers, digital images, video and audio resources for multimedia presentations, camera animation, stop-film animation and digital animation.


Business Image Management and Multimedia (BIMM) - Tech Credit V401

The student will use different computer programs as MS office, Adobe, Macromedia, as well as the use of scanners, photo cameras and Internet.  Import graphics, sound and video objects into text documents and presentations, using CD-ROM, web, and other on-line services.  The student will also manipulate text, graphics, and other electronic images for business document production.

BCIS 1  (Business Computer Information System) V161 Tech Credit

Students will learn computer concepts to include the basic operation of computers, typing, proper use of internet, & basic computer applications.  These applications include Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access. (Grades: 9-12) (Offered also as Dual Language Class )

BCIS 2  (Business Computer Information System) V171 Tech Credit

Students recognize, evaluate, and prepare for a rapidly evolving global business environment that requires flexibility and adaptability.  Students implement personal and interpersonal skills to strengthen individual performance in the workplace and in society and to make a successful transition to the workforce and/or postsecondary education.

Business Computer Programming V167 Tech Credit

Students enhance reading, writing, computing, communications, and reasoning skills and apply them to the business environment. Students learn general programming skills and concepts with a concentration on HTML and Java. Student's practice coding and testing programs in a laboratory setting. This course is highly recommended to students who are interested in pursuing a career in engineering, programming, gaming, networking, etc. They must be good in math or like math and problem solving. Detail oriented is also a good skill to have. If they want something not as tedious as programming they might consider BIMM instead.

Fine Art - Electives
 

TECHNICAL THEATRE:  D131 - Fine Arts

Students will learn the basic concepts of set, lighting and sound design for plays. Students will also learn set construction, painting and basic tool safety for the benefit of building scenery. Students are required to use power tools, hang lighting instruments and build sets for all of the school productions


THEATRE ARTS 1:   D121 - Fine arts credit

This is a beginner course; in this course you will be taught theatre history, as well as the basics of stage presence and acting. This class is open to anyone interested in learning the basics of acting on stage.


THEATRE ARTS 2:
 D221 - Fine Arts credit / elective

This course requires you to have taken theatre arts 1. This is the second part of theatre arts 1 and provides a more intense study of the voice and body as it relates to the performer.


**THEATRE PRODUCTION:  D111

This course is the theatre side of our musical theatre course. This class also requires teacher approval.


GUITAR 1: I181

Beginning guitar.  Must own an acoustic guitar.


PIANO 1: I910

Beginning Piano - Members will learn basic piano skills.  Students will learn how to read music, develop their ear training skills and obtain the skills to play both modern and classical piano music.  Members will be involved in both individual, due and group lessons.  We will perform a Holiday and spring piano recital as well as record a CD, for the students to keep at the end of the year.

Broadcast Journalism (J192)- Elective

Broadcast Journalism - This course is designed to enhance skills learned in Intro to Media Tech. Students are trained for entry-level employment in broadcast journalism careers, as well as movie, video and television production careers.  Students in this class produce two-television magazine shows, Conquest Journal and Conquest Journal en Espanol.

*Requires a pre-requisite course: Intro to Media Technology. *


Criminal Investigations: (V180) - Elective

This course provides a basic understanding of investigation theory, collection and preservation of evidence, and sources of information. This course provides a basic understanding of investigation theory, collection and preservation of evidence, and sources of information.  Methods of conducting interviews and interrogations will also be covered.  Students will also be provided opportunities to discover uses of forensic sciences, and prepare for case and trials.  Will cover officer safety and tactics, which are now needed in today's real world threat to law enforcement while investigating a mere traffic stop to an act of terrorism.


Fundamentals of Criminal Law:  V036- elective

A study of the nature of criminal law, its philosophy and historical developments with major definitions and concepts.  A study of the classifications of crime, and elements of crimes and penalties, using Texas statues as illustrations in addition to criminal responsibilities.

Journalism : J001-elective

This course is designed to train students to research and interview with the specific intent to use the information to write news, features and sports stories using journalism style specifically for publication in newspaper or yearbook. Writing the editorial is also part of this class.  It is a great class for freshmen, sophomores and juniors , as it will enhance research, writing, and editing and organization skills. It is a pre-requisite course for anyone wanting to join yearbook or newspaper.

Photojournalism:  J131 - elective

This course is designed to train students to research and interview with the specific intent to use the information to write news, features and sports stories using journalism style specifically for publication in newspaper or yearbook. This class will also train the student to take photographs in the tradition of the photojournalist. Students will learn to take photographs specifically for publication and for a purpose. This is not a photography-as-a-hobby class. It is a great class for freshmen, sophomores and juniors as it will enhance research, writing, and editing and organization skills as well as provide excellent training in photojournalism. It is a pre-requisite course for anyone wanting to join yearbook or newspaper.


Newspaper J121 - elective    Teacher approval.

This is the class for the student who has taken the Journalism or Photojournalism pre requisite class and wants to take part in producing the newspaper. This is a hands-on, production-oriented class. This class generates a product, the newspaper, under a deadline schedule. It is a very product-oriented class and excellent training for college and or business as it is a very goal oriented class that enhances organizational as well as problem-solving skills.

Yearbook J101 - elective and Desktop publishing C541 - elective  (taken together).   

This is the class for the student who has taken the Journalism or Photojournalism pre requisite class and wants to take part in producing the yearbook. This is a hands-on, production-oriented class. Preparation for Parenting V003  - elective

Introduction to knowledge and skills related to child growth and development.  Equip individuals to develop positive relationships with children and effective parenting and caregiver skills.

Personal and Family Development V001 - elective

Provides individuals with knowledge and skills for managing the challenges of living and working in a diverse, global society.  Individuals utilize these skills to enhance career and personal effectiveness, promote family strength and well being, and pursue career options. 

Accounting V540 - elective

Students learn basic accounting terminology and processes required to understand the money management, documentation, and requirements of a business. Students will learn about checking accounts, federal income tax forms and filing procedures, as well as daily accounting operations of a business. Students must like math, problem solving, details, spreadsheets, and charts.  Having an interest in business is helpful but not required. Accounting may be useful for anyone wanting to understand how money needs to be handled so as to understand their own business practices.(Grades: 11-12)


Psychology / Sociology H901 - elective

Psychology is the emotional and behavioral characteristics of an individual.  Sociology is the study of human social behavior, especially the study of the origins, organization, institutions, and development of human society.

Juniors and Seniors Only

 

Emergency Telecommunications V186 - elective

This course is a study of the history of public safety, communications and of the federal and state laws affecting public safety communications.  In addition, telephone and radio communications systems are studied, as are communication, emergency management 911 and stress and crisis management.  This course also gives the student a two-year certification upon successful completion of the course and final test examination score of 80% or better, scored by the national Dispatch Academy. Must be a senior with good keyboard skills and have taken a criminal justice course.

 

Marketing  (Sports & Entertainment) V235  - elective

This class is open to any Junior or senior student interested in learning more about the "World of Sports & Entertainment."  The class focuses on marketing for Sports & Entertainment.

Marketing Yourself V222 - elective


Is an introductory class designed for student's personal development?  Students will learn about resumes, applications, and interviewing skills so they will be prepared to look for a job.  This class is open to any Junior or Senior.

Marketing Dynamics V153  - elective

Marketing Dynamics Co - op - these are 1st year students interested in a marketing and business career.  Students are required to work 15 hours a week outside of school.  Everyone will be required to work at the Silver Corner School Store for hands on job training.  Jobs may be in the areas of restaurants, retail stores, and grocery stores.  Depending on student credits, student may be allowed to have work periods (periods off from school to attend work). Anyone interested in being in this class must have good attendance, average grades, and in good discipline standing. (Juniors & Seniors)

Marketing Management Co - op - V255 (elective)

This is a 2nd year course for students that have completed Marketing Dynamics.  Students are required to work 15 hours a week outside of school.  Jobs may be in the areas of restaurants, retail stores, and grocery stores.  Everyone will be required to work at the Silver Corner School Store for hands on job training.  This class manages the Silver Corner.  Depending on student credits, student may be allowed to have work periods (Periods off from school to attend work)


Administrative Procedures  CO - OP V175 - elective

Must have teacher approval see Mrs. Estrada in room A210.  Must be a junior or senior.

 

Riverside Trades and Industry (juniors only)

 

These are two- year programs.  At the end of your sophomore year you must have completed Fine Arts, Foreign Language, Technology, and Speech/Health.  Your Counselor must certify you are current with all credits before you can apply to Riverside.  See Counselor to get approval.
