Teachers must be able to prepare students for their future in a manner that assures that all students will not simply survive, but truly thrive in the world that awaits them. The key to success for all students is the assurance that they are all fully engaged in their learning processes and that there are opportunities in their schools, libraries, homes and communities that stimulate and initiate this engagement.
The integration of technologies into Texas schools can transform the teaching process by allowing for greater levels of interest, inquiry, analysis, collaboration, creativity and content production. Educators who take advantage of this technology in teaching and learning not only make the learning more engaging and relevant to students but prepare students to live, think, and communicate in the 21st century.
The Texas Long Range Plan for Technology sets technology competencies for all educators to ensure that they have the skills and ability to maximize new information and communication technologies targeted to learning. Meeting the Technology Applications Educator Standards is required for all teachers. Educator professional development programs should continue to provide coursework that addresses these standards and their relationship with core subject areas.
