![]() for last nine weeks of Photojournalism IA, fall-winter 07-08
Between now and your final, you will be responsible for completing three B&W film assignments (unless we run out of supplies…), 1 digital assignment, a project and reading the units and doing the review questions by the deadlines below. For the photo assignments, that means shooting the pictures, developing them, doing a proof (From which I will choose at least one picture), printing the picture(s) and writing the captions. That mans the print must be turned into me with a typed page that includes the WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE and WHY or HOW, a quote, and your name so you will get credit (Negatives and proof must be included with the print!) Here is a caption example: Senior Javier Bustillos throws a strikeout pitch in the final inning at the Feb. 14 game against Del Valle at Bel Air. The Highlanders won 5-4. “That pitch was important,” Bustillos said. “I knew we needed strikeouts in that inning or we could easily lose the game.” When you are not busy in the darkroom, you should use the time to read the units and do the assignments. You also have little time to get your digital photo done – so get a camera when you are not busy, even thought it’s not due until after the holidays. Books are NOT taken out of the room, period. If you are sick, you need to come in at lunch or after school to catch up on this work. I also will leave one book on call in the library. Oct. 26-Nov. 9 Take your first assignment, a sports action photo, and get the film developed. Proof, print and ID your first assignment which is due Thursday/Friday, Nov. 9. Read units 12-14 in the text. Do review questions at end of each unit, due Thursday/Friday Nov. 9. Nov. 12-Nov. 30 Read units 15-18. Do review questions at end of each unit. Proof, print and ID your third assignment, which is due Thursday/Friday, Dec. 13-14. Make your decision on your project NO LATER THAN Dec. 14. It must be written down and turned in to Miss V. Dec. 17-Jan. 16 Read units 5-8. Do review questions at end of each unit. Due Wednesday/Thursday Dec. 19-20. Take your digital photos, which can be any of the three above assignments (sports, classroom, feature portrait). Adjust in Adobe Photoshop and print out at least two of your best pictures, each 5x7 with 200 dpi resolution. (You may print on same page.) Digital pictures are due Tuesday/Wednesday, Jan. 8-9 AT THE LATEST. Also begin work on your project, which will be your nine weeks test grade/final exam. Decision on the subject of your project, which can be 4 pictures with B&W film (if we still have enough), or 10 digital, must be made by Friday, Dec. 14. Don’t leave everything until the last minute. Dec. 20 is the last day before the holidays. Jan. 17-18 During finals, you should proof, print and ID your project, which is due Wed.-Thurs. Jan. 16-17. DEADLINES: 1. Sports action photo. DUE Thursday/Friday, Nov. 9. This must be a B&W print picture of a person or persons actually PLAYING a sport. Please do not get more than a few people in the picture. If you cannot see the people’s faces clearly in the photo, there are TOO MANY people in the photo to be useable for publication (which should be your goal.) You must turn in your proof, negatives and caption with the photo. Proof, negatives and caption are daily grades; photo itself is a test grade. 2. Class/organization action photo. DUE Thursday/Friday, Nov. 29-30. This must be a B&W print picture of a person or persons actually doing something in a classroom or for an organization – they can’t just be sitting at a desk. Again, please do not get more than a few people in the picture. If you cannot see the people’s faces clearly in the photo, there are TOO MANY people in the photo to be useable for publication (which should be your goal.) You must turn in your proof, negatives and caption with the photo. Proof, negatives and caption are daily grades; photo itself is a test grade. 3. Feature portrait: due Thursday/Friday, Dec. 13-14. This must be a B&W print picture of a single person. It should be close up – rarely full body length unless needed to portray what they do, i.e., they are a dancer. Props can be used (i.e., the ball for a sports figure, newspaper for a newspaper seller.) You must turn in your proof, negatives and caption with the photo. Proof, negatives and caption are daily grades; photo itself is a test grade. 4. Digital pictures. Due Tuesday/Wednesday, Jan. 8-9 AT THE LATEST. They can be of any of the 3 above assignments (Sports, classroom, portrait). Do a batch proof in Photoshop. DO NOT just print them out. They must be sized to 5x7, 200 dpi resolution and printed out (It is OK to put both on one sheet). Type your caption and attach to printout. Captions and proof is daily grade, photos are a test grade. 5. Project. Due Wed.-Thurs. Jan 16-17. This is a minimum of 4 pictures if you do B&W, 10 pictures if you do digital. Digital must be sized to 5x7, 200 dpi resolution, two to a page. It is preferred (read that you get extra points) if the project is mounted for presentation. It can be as simple as putting it on a poster board or making a booklet with construction paper. CAPTIONS MUST BE INCLUDED WITH PICTURES! Type please! |
