Bel Air won a number of awards at the annual ROTC review Thursday, May 14, at Bel Air Stadium, including a trophy for it's traditional win in the Bataan March.


Seniors Jessica Gutierrez and Melissa Vasquez were two of 14 seniors in the Ysleta Independent School District who were given scholarships Friday, May 1, by the Ysleta Education Foundation. Gutierrez and Vasquez each received a one-time $5,000 scholarship, Gutierrez for University of Texas at El Paso and Vasquez for St. Mary’s University in San Antonio. The “YEF Scholarship Sweep Patrol,” who delivered oversized checks to the honorees, included Superintendent Dr. Michael Zolkoski and the YEF Board of Directors.

Fifty YISD students will receive a total of $112,500 in scholarships. This year’s awards bring the total amount of scholarships provided to YISD graduating seniors to over $1.5 million since inception of the Foundation. These high school students, along numerous endowed scholarships and the YEF/Price’s Creameries Middle School Scholars, will be honored at an awards banquet on Friday, May 8, at YISD Administration and Cultural Arts Center.

The Boys Varsity Soccer Team made it to the Sweet 16 for the third year in a row. They lost to the No. 1 team in the country, Dallas Jesuit, 3-0. Team members reminisce on their good year.


Bel Air's JV Soccer team hasn't lost a game this season with 5-3-0 record (3 ties) and hopes to head for another district championship.

Bel Air's football team won its last game of the season against Eastwood 13-7 in the Battle of the Helmet.


At year’s end Bel Air presents the ROSE awards - Recognizing Outstanding Student Achievement. The awards are presented to outstanding students in every academic area, from math and science, to health professions and theater. The top 10 students at each grade level and seniors in each academy, also receive Rose Awards.
