Seniors Jessica Gutierrez and Melissa Vasquez were two of 14 seniors in the Ysleta Independent School District who were given scholarships Friday, May 1, by the Ysleta Education Foundation. Gutierrez and Vasquez each received a one-time $5,000 scholarship, Gutierrez for University of Texas at El Paso and Vasquez for St. Mary’s University in San Antonio. The “YEF Scholarship Sweep Patrol,” who delivered oversized checks to the honorees, included Superintendent Dr. Michael Zolkoski and the YEF Board of Directors.
Fifty YISD students will receive a total of $112,500 in scholarships. This year’s awards bring the total amount of scholarships provided to YISD graduating seniors to over $1.5 million since inception of the Foundation. These high school students, along numerous endowed scholarships and the YEF/Price’s Creameries Middle School Scholars, will be honored at an awards banquet on Friday, May 8, at YISD Administration and Cultural Arts Center. |
