Find a magazine or newspaper article and read it.  Write the title of the article and a very brief summary of the article, copy down the thesis statement, and tell where it is in the article.  Then copy down a topic sentence from a paragraph within the article. 

EXAMPLE:  Title-- And They All Lived Happily Ever After. 

Summary:  An article giving background information on baseball player who was recently traded to Boston for superstar Manny Ramirez. 

Thesis statement:  The baggage-free leftfielder is the anti-Manny in seemingly every way but one:  He can hit too.  (right at the beginning, just under the title) 

Topic sentence:  Game 1 of the American League Division Series was the biggest game of his life. (third paragraph, second sentence)
